For several women, flip-flops have become an indispensable element in their summer wardrobe. More and more women are wearing flip flops in the workplace, especially in these warmer months. Some style experts believe that flips flops could be damaging not only our feet but our careers.
Flip flops have been proven to provide comfort, but can also be viewed as an unprofessional shoe of choice. Quite often how you dress sends a message to your employer about your level of professionalism which can impact your career path.
According to the Wirthlin Worldwide survey, most American employers feel employees should make changes in their workplace wardrobe choices. Out of those who were surveyed, more than 70% of executives concur that workplace attire affects an employee’s state of mind or behavior and, therefore, his or her productivity in a place of business. Employees who wear more professional attire advance faster in their careers, according to 63% of executives.
Given the state of the economy and the high unemployment rate, one might want to play it safe and hang up the flip-flops, not just for the summer season, but for good.
I want to know you take on the issue.
Do you think flip-flops could be detrimental to a career?
