I’d like you to tell me one thing, just one: Have you ever seen floppy ears make any puppy look as adorable as mine do? I didn’t think so. I’m pretty unbelievable that way. Unfortunately, my previous human companions must have been missing a good pair of working eyes because they gave me away on Craigslist at only five weeks of age; far too young to be weaned from my Momma.
The good news is that German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County was right there to scoop me up and place me into a loving foster home. Now I’m 6 months old and currently share the house with several other German Shepherds of different ages. I love my new brothers and sisters. In fact, I haven’t yet met a dog or person I didn’t like. Yep, I’m that friendly. And boy, do I like to romp and tumble! My favorite toy is probably the water hose. You turn one of those on and I’m good for hours of play. I’ll even join you in the shower if you let me! And did I mention how much fun I have riding in cars? Remember, floppy ears…Even so, my house manners continue to improve daily – I’m learning how to walk on a leash and soon expect to be, like most things, quite good at it.
The only thing that dampens my spirits is a medical condition I have called Megaesophagus. It’s a malformation of the throat which requires a special feeding regimen. I must eat several small meals a day in a special kind of bowl. Though I’ve been diagnosed with a very mild case of the disease, and may even grow out of it in time, I worry no one will ever permanently adopt me because I’m a dog with special needs. But you won’t let that happen, right?
I am, after all, such a good, good dog. I promise to always be there when you need me. In fact, they call me “Velcro dog” because I love to be around people so much. The ideal home would be one with other dogs and regular human company.
