It’s April now, which is the month when the NFL Draft is held. We’re getting closer and closer to the Lions being able to add a handful of players to the roster in order to help the team. It’s all very exciting. Until then, here’s a few pieces fo Lions related news.
First off, I’ve read a handful of rumors regarding the Lions potentially trading the second overall pick. In fact, I even read somewhere that they’ve received an offer. Now, it might not have been a good offer, but at least there is intrigue. Most of it revolves around Jimmy Clausen, the former Notre Dame quarterback. While I think it would be completely ridiculous to draft Clausen that high, and that’s with the extra spots you usually have to pay to get a quarterback, there is at least the potential for it. Would it be a good move? Sure, even if they lose out on Ndamukong Suh in the process. However, I doubt the Lions get enough of an offer for them to trade down. Those things just don’t happen much anymore.
The Lions may be looking to improve their offensive line via a trade, with rumors swirling around Seattle Seahawks guard Rob Sims. The talk is the Lions could trade a fourth round pick for him. He’s only 26, and while I’m no expert on guard play from what I read he’s decent enough. A fourth round pick seems like a reasonable price to pay for him. I’d be all for it. Sure, it might mean Jeff Backus remains at tackle, but the offensive line would still improve, and allow the Lions to focus on defense in the Draft.
They’ve announced Detroit’s opponents for the preseason. They visit Pittsburgh and Denver. They host Cleveland and Buffalo. Surely Ford Field will be rocking for those two games.
Speaking of Cleveland, current Brown and former Lion Shaun Rogers is in trouble with the law. Apparently, he tried to bring a gun on an airplane. He says he just forgot it was in his bag. Either way he’s an idiot. I said earlier this offseason I think Suh could be Rogers without the character issues for the Lions. This is what I was talking about.
That’s all for now. It appears the Lions might be adding a player or two (Sims and Pacman) before the Draft, but other than that I don’t see much news coming out of Detroit until April 22nd. Just 20 days away!
