With all this warm weather, Bostonians and New Englands are just itching for the perfect road trip. The Maine Innkeepers Association (MEIA) has just the ticket with the 7th Annual Hospitality for Habitat program. While this program is designed to raise funds for local chapters of Habitat for Humanity, it’s a great way to save on B&B travel in Maine throughout April and May. Save on accommodations so others can have them? It’s a great formula for a B&B getaway that’ll offer something for you and others in need.
The program is simple. Travel between April 26 and May 28, 2010, and participating Maine Innkeeper member properties will offer a designated number of their rooms at half the regular rate, in exchange for a $35 check payable to Habitat for Humanity. Some properties have extended the dates.
The funds will be distributed among the nine local chapters of Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity International is a Christian ministry dedicated to eliminating poverty housing. Founded in 1975 by Millard Fuller, along with his wife Linda, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliates in more than 3,000 communities in 92 nations have built more than 300,000 homes for partner families around the world. Their website is www.habitat.org. This year, after the devastating earth quake in Haiti, part of the funds raised in this promotion will also be distributed to help support Habitat for Humanity projects in Haiti.
Reservations must be made in advance, and the contribution to Habitat for Humanity must be in the form of a check. Many guests write more than one check; offering a donation for each day they take advantage of the generous program. Here are a few samples of Habitat for Humanity packages from Maine’s B&Bs, all within an easy drive from Boston:
