Crystal Bowersox inspires, cries, puts guitar down for ‘People Get Ready’ on ‘American Idol’ – Current frontrunner Crystal Bowersox sang an emotional rendition of “People Get Ready” on Tuesday night’s American Idol, standing at a special mike stand she uses back home with no guitar or piano. The song meant so much to her that she ended up crying at the end of it because it was also the first time her father was in the audience.
On a night that was themed with inspirational music, judge Simon Cowell said, “Now that was inspirational.”
In fact Ms. Bowersox stood in the praising embrace of all 4 judges once again. Here are their comments:
Randy Jackson: “Yo, yo. Been a fan since Day 1. That is how you do it. That was unbelievable. Got to give you the standing…” [stood up and applauded].
Ellen DeGeneres: “Crystal, you have never looked more beautiful. You just get more and more beautiful, and you keep evolving and growing and getting better and better. That was beautiful, and whatever that thing is [pointing to her mic stand], I like it.”
Ms. Bowersox told her, “This is my mic stand from back home. I’ve used it every show until I came to Idol.”
Ellen DeGeneres: “I like it. Keep it with you.”
Kara DioGuardi: “Crystal, thank you so much for taking a risk and putting your guitar down. You’re at another level tonight. Mamasox, you know why they call you that? ‘Cause you just schooled all those contestants.”
And Simon Cowell: “That was inspirational, and you know what, Crystal? I’m actually, in a strange way, happy to see you be emotional because you have, you know, closed down a little bit. All of us felt like this song meant a lot to you. You sang it fantastically. For me, it was in a competely different class to everything we’ve heard tonight. Congratulations.”
Host Ryan Seacrest talked with the singer about why she was so emotional with the song.
Crystal Bowersox: “My Dad’s here, and it’s the first time he’s been here. I saw my Dad, and I was like, thank the Lord for my family.”
The results show this week will be American Idol’s annual fundraising event, “Idol Gives Back,” featuring a special performance by Elton John. The longer show airs Wednesday night on FOX starting at 8:00 p.m. ET.
