It was inspiration week on ‘American Idol’ last night and Alicia Keys was there to mentor the top 7 Idols. While some performers soared, think Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze, others faltered pretty badly and may well see themselves going home tonight, think Tim Urban or Siobhan Magnus.
Reviews of the performances
Casey James – “Don’t Stop” by Fleetwood Mac
Casey James looked handsome with his hair slicked back and I was digging his outfit. He also sounded pretty good on ‘American Idol’ last night, though it reminded me of something from the 90’s.
Randy – “I’m looking for something a little more special.”
Ellen- “You are consistently good but you have to be great.”
Kara- “Your performance tonight was like Jam-Night.”
Simon- “That song wasn’t particularly inspiring.”
Lee DeWyze – ‘The Boxer’ by Simon and Garfunkel
Excellent performance that touched the heart. I think Lee DeWyze could be be the next ‘American Idol’ as he keeps getting better every week.
RANDY- “I think you are a great artist ready to make great music.”
Ellen- “You have so much soul and depth to you.”
Kara- “I think you had your moment tonight.”
Simon- “That was sincere, emotional, inspirational and you made it sound as if it were written a week ago. Absolutely brilliant.
Tim Urban- “Better Days” by The Goo Goo Dolls
OK, I am a huge Goo Goo Dolls fan and while Tim sounded OK, it was no-where near the original. He definitely showed the weakness in his ability to key the tune in this song. It sounded a bit off to me.
Randy- “It was OK-Good Karoake for me.”
Ellen- “Tim, you are like the soup of the day and today I didn’t like the soup.”
Kara- “This is where you belong but this wasn’t your best performance.”
Simon- “I’m finding it hard to believe in this performance.”
Aaron Kelly- “I Believe I Can Fly” by R Kelly
Awful arrangement and paled in comparison to the original. Aaron Kelly wasn’t feeling the song but it just wasn’t that great to me.
Randy- “You have pure vocal talent.”
Ellen- “I believe you can fly.”
Kara- “By the end you were flying.”
Simon- “You gave it your all but if I would have heard that on the radio I would have turned it off in 10 seconds.”
Siobhan Magnus- “When You Believe”
A good solid performance. Great voice though something was lacking for me, maybe some parts didn’t sound as great as others. Like she was going out of tune a bit.
Randy- “You picked the toughest song of the night but it was just OK for me.”
Ellen- “That was just more confirmation as to why you are here.”
Kara- “It was really well sung but this is not a musical.”
Simon- “This was not the right song for you.”
Michael Lynche ‘Hero’
The musical arrangement washed his voice away. But when you could hear him it sounded good. Though, it was not his best performance by a long shot.
Randy- “It worked out.”
Ellen- “You sounded great.”
Kara- “You don’t have the voice for that song.”
Simon- “This didn’t quite gel for me.”
Crystal Bowersox sings “Get Ready”
Brilliant performance. Crystal Bowersox is just as good without an instrument. She will have a long career ahead of her. She never has a bad performance. Very touching performance and she broke down crying at the end of the performance. Next ‘American Idol’ right here!
Randy- “That was brilliant.”
Ellen- “That was beautiful.”
The ‘American Idol’ results show will air tonight on Fox at 9pm, Los Angeles channel 11.
