TriCities students who will graduate this year can apply for several scholarship opportunities to help out with the cost of post-secondary education. In addition to the Coquitlam Optimist Oratorical Contest and the Youth in Action awards, the BC and Yukon Community Newspapers Association (BCYNCA) is awarding scholarships of $3,500 , $1,000, and $500.
This scholarship program is one of the most accessible in BC. Entrants must write a 500-word essay to the TriCity News by April 23, 2010 on the topic, “How could your local paper partner with the youth in your community to make a positive difference?”
Essays can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org. The best essay submitted to each community newspaper will be forwarded to the BCYCNA. The three best essays in BC will be selected from among those submitted by students in the 117 areas served by BC’s community newspapers. The scholarships will be awarded at each of the winners’ graduating ceremonies by a representative of their community newspaper.
For more information or to download an application form, visit the BCYCNA website or phone 604-669-9222 or toll free 1-866-669-9222.
