Ten of the best grade 12 kids in Lower Mainland will be awarded Youth in Action Awards. In addition to the Coquitlam Optimist Oratorical Contest (submit form indicating intent to participate by April 4) and the BC and Yukon Newspapers Association scholarships, students graduating this year can apply to Westminster Savings Credit Union for one of 10 Youth in Action college scholarships.
Westminster Savings is preparing to divide $20,000 among 10 grade 12 students from the TriCities, New Westminster, Ridge Meadows, Langley, Burnaby, Surrey, and White Rock. Created nine years ago, the Youth in Action scholarships reward the activities of youth who give their best by volunteering in their communities. According to the WSCU website,
“Youth in Action is a program created to help youth prepare for their future and develop skills needed to achieve personal financial goals. Westminster Savings Credit Union is committed to teaching youth to manage their money through various activities, as well as develop a sense of social responsibility.”
The deadline to apply for this scholarship is 5 PM on April 6, 2010. Download an application form from the WSCU website.
