Chelsea King news: Oakland A’s Brett Tomko meets with slain teenager’s family
On Saturday, relatives of Chelsea King met with baseball’s Brett Tomko, who hails from the Poway, Calif. area—a community grieving over the teenager’s horrific death.
Chelsea’s dad, Brent King, along with his brother, Tyler, joined Tomko at the clubhouse where they toured the facility and met several Oakland A’s players.
Chelsea, 17, went for a jog on Feb. 25 near Lake Hodges and was never seen alive again. Her body was found several days later in a shallow grave near the lake. Convicted sex offender, John Gardner, has been charged with her rape and murder, but has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Tomko said “I think it hits home when you’re that close to it… You almost feel a little attacked yourself when you’re living four miles from that trail.”
According to Mercury News, Tomko did not know the King family prior to Saturday’s meeting, but had learned through a friend that both Brent and Tyler were huge fans and planned to visit Phoenix to observe spring training.
Tomko plans to keep in touch with the King family, according to Mercury News.
