The decision to get a kitten can be an easy one, especially when you see that adorable little meowing ball of fur and feeling him purring as he nuzzles your neck.
There are many places you can adopt a new kitten from, including C.A.R.E. (located on West Sunshine in the Lakeshore Shopping Center) and the Southwest Missouri Humane Society (two locations in Springfield).
However, many need to consider what needs to be done before the little guy (or girl) comes home as well as after they are there.
Your new kitten is going to need a lot of items that you should have before ever bringing it home.
New Kitten Shopping List
Litter box, cat litter, dry kitten food, food and water dishes, cat treats, scratching post, collar, name tag with your phone number, flea collar approved for the age of your kitten, kitten shampoo (yes, you need to bath them on occasion), cat toys, cat brush, bed or pillow and travel cage (for when they need to be transported to and from the vet and other places).
You also need to make sure your new little pet is up to date on it’s vaccinations, especially a rabis shot. Many shelter animals have paperwork showing their vet treatments.
