Indy Football Report Editor John Oehser is taking a look at the Colts’ 2010 regular-season schedule on a game-by-game basis. Here’s a quick look at Week 2.
New York Giants
By game-time, Indianapolis Colts QB Peyton Manning and his brother – Giants QB Eli Manning – without question will be tired of the Manning Bowl II angle.
And Eli undoubtedly will be tired of questions about what it would mean to beat his brother.
But that’s without question the angle, and considering Peyton Manning’s competitiveness, this will be one he very much wants to win – even if he doesn’t extensively discuss wanting to beat Eli much publicly.
The Manning-Manning angle is significant in another sense, too.
With Peyton Manning entering his 13th season, and with the NFL scheduling games between teams from different conferences only once every four seasons, it’s conceivable the second meeting of the two brothers will be the last. Manning will be entering his 17th season in 2014, the next time Indianapolis would travel to New York providing the league maintains its current scheduling system.
And even if Peyton Manning is still playing in four seasons – and the guess here is he will be – he likely will be at least a bit past his prime. That makes this one of those remember-it-forever-at-the-holidays games, and it’s hard to imagine big brother losing that one.
Prediction: Colts 21-13.
