Update: A rep for Beyonce has confirmed that the story is false and that Beyonce has not been cast as Ginger for the film adaptation of Gilligan’s Island nor has Michael Cera as Gilligan. Would have been nice if it were true, wouldn’t you say?
Beyonce lands new movie role as Ginger Grant in the film adaptation of Gilligan’s Island.
Is she unstoppable or is she unstoppable?
Beyonce has managed to become one of music’s biggest stars and it appears that she won’t rest until she becomes the same when it comes to acting.
Gilligan’s Island developed a cult following during its run and fans have been begging for the show to be remade into a movie. Although the casting has not yet been completed, it has been confirmed that Beyonce will take on the role of Ginger Grant (originally played by Tina Louise) – the diva movie star of the castaways that was often known to dress lavishly despite being stranded on an island.
Gilligan’s Island was a TV show that aired from 1964-1967 on the CBS network and is known as an American classic. The comedy followed 7 castaways who traveled on a boat for what was supposed to be a “three-hour tour” when they run into a tropical storm and are shipwrecked on an island.
The creator of the show, Sherwood Schwartz, expressed early interest in signing Beyonce on as Ginger, so it comes as no surprise that he decided to do so despite some of the show’s fans dissatisfaction with his choice.
Wife of Gilligan island star, Bob Denver, is thrilled about the remake and is offering the new castaways a word of advice. Via a press release, Dreama Denver said:
“Bob wrote every word of his autobiography Gilligan, Maynard and Me (Denver’s other starring role as Maynard Krebs in “The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis:), and it’s packed with lots of great behind the scenes info on the original Gilligan’s Island. I’ll be happy to get a copy to them, so they can see how the original Gilligan’s Island team made the magic happen…and find out whether Bob was more of a Ginger or Mary Ann guy.”
This will be Beyonce’s 7th appearance on film. The last two movies the singer showed off her acting chops in were Cadillac Records (where she took on the role of legendary singer Etta James) and the Fatal Attraction-esque film Obsessed.
Other actors casted so far for Gilligan’s Island are funny men Michael Cera (as Gilligan) and Seth Rogen (as Skipper).
There is no word on when the film will hit theaters.
What are your thoughts? Do you feel Beyonce was made for the part or do you think they could have caste someone else?
