One of the greatest American traditions is the road trip. With the rising price of gas this is becoming somewhat of a thing of the past, but if you have the ways and means, here are some tips to make the best out of a road trip with your sweetheart.
Supplies. Stock up on healthy snacks, caffeine if you need it, a pillow, blanket, cooler, comfortable clothes, money, IDs, sunscreen (depending on where you are going), and anything else you’ll need to make this trip a great one. Don’t forget to stop every few hours and stretch!
Split the costs. Gas prices are ever-rising, so make sure you split the cost when you can, this will help against any conflicts that could potentially arise over the money situation. Also, split meal costs and make sure everything comes out relatively evenly.
Conflict resolution. Being with anyone, let alone a significant other in close quarters for an extended amount of time, can take its toll. Problems may come from money, being tired, hungry, not getting enough exercise, etc. Just take a moment to recognize what might be going on, pinpoint it, and work it out. Working out your problems during a trip like this will help to make your bond even stronger, and it will show the both of you that you can make it through whatever comes your way.
Play games. When driving for lengthy periods of time, it can be oh so fun to play some games to mix things up. Try the alphabet game, write down all the license plates you see and tally them at the end of the vacation, bring specially made road trip games, and a deck of cards for when you actually stop somewhere.
See the sights. This country is founded upon individuality and differences, and you should utilize every aspect of American culture that you can. Depending on your route, research places where you might like to stop along the way. You might learn something new, have a fabulous experience, see something mind-blowing, or just become closer to your lady. It’s all gravy!
Tunes. Music is vital to the success of almost anything. Make sure you stock you iPod full of great songs, make a handful of cds, or find a list of great radio stations.
Before you leave. Don’t forget to hit-up the sights that Baltimore always has to offer! Check out the touristy Inner Harbor. Then ship out and have the time of your life!
As always, be safe and make sure to follow the laws of each state you enter. Have a great time!
