Sallie Curtis Elementary in Beaumont, Texas believes all children can learn, and the proof is in the pudding. The school has an academic rating of exemplary, and is one of several schools in BISD that has been recognized by the National Center for Educational Achievement (NCEA) as a Just for the Kids Higher Performing School in Texas. Curtis also received the Gold Performance acknowledgment in subjects Reading, Writing, Science and CIM (Social Studies, Art, PE and Health Education), and met the AYP qualifications for progress in Math.

Sallie Curtis Elementary is one of the schools slated for demolition and rebuilding in BISD’s bond issue. An exact date for beginning and completion is not yet set, but the estimated time to start the project is Spring 2010, or after Regina-Howell is complete. Sallie Curtis will move into the portable school at 850 Major Drive after Regina-Howell moves into their new school.
