One of the hallmarks of a gifted child is that they want to know everything there is to know about a given subject, and that they are capable of thinking about a topic in simultaneously expansive and abstract terms.
On Earth Day (April 22), as the media recycles the same stories, tropes and statistics that they pull out every year about global warming, challenge your child to delve deeper into the issue by exploring the other side: that of scientists who believe our current information is inaccurate.
A good site to start with is Climate Skeptic and their Layman’s Guide to Man Made Global Warming.
Your child will either get incensed at the blasphemy and be inspired to do further research to disprove their hypotheses, or s/he will recognize the contradictions and be inspired to do further research to confirm their assertions.
In either case, it should prove a unique, educational, and gifted-child appropriate way to celebrate the day! By taking something “everyone knows” and pushing it to the next level.
