The 45th annual ACM Country Music Awards took place over the weekend in the beautiful MGM hotel of Las Vegas, NV. Hosted by one of my all-time country faves, Reba McEntire, the show was a testament to the growth and staying-power of country music.
The ACM’s are always fun to watch because of the non stop musical performances. Throw in some hillarious comedy and it was a party. Country folk really know how to put on a good show. Performances included lovely ladies such as Miranda Lambert and Laura Bell Bundy, as well as Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, and Darius Rucker.
Winners included the following:
Album of the Year– “Revolution” by Miranda Lambert
Entertainer of the Year- Carrie Underwood
Single Record of the Year– “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum
Song of the Year– “Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum
Video of the Year– “White Liar” by Miranda Lambert
Top Vocal Group of the Year– Lady Antebellum
Top Male Vocalist of the Year– Brad Paisley
Top Female Vocalist of the Year– Miranda Lambert
Top Vocal Duo of the Year– Brooks & Dunn
Top New Vocal Duo of the Year– Joey + Rory
Top New Solo Vocalist of the Year– Luke Bryan
Top New Vocal Group of the Year– Gloriana
So I’m sitting on my 7 am flight to Las Vegas on Friday. A group of gentlemen with country accents are in the several rows behind me with one of them sitting on my left. We get to talking, mostly about taxiing for so long on the runway, and he mentions that he works for a band. “What band?” I inquire, mostly to be nice as I think it’s some band I probably have never heard of. “Lady Antebellum” he replies. Let’s just say that I really enjoyed that 1 hour flight. They played on Fremont Street on Friday night and I got to watch them live. They also took home several awards at the ACMs Sunday night. Good going boys, guess my “good lucky” worked ;).
