New York fashion has quickly come and past. London fashion week is long gone. Milan fashion week is made it’s mark. And Paris fashion week is just underway. But forget about Paris. Right now it is all about the Oscars. We are just days away from the most, highly anticipated award show of the season, the Academy Awards. At this very moment stylist’s (like the ones we saw painted in Kimberly Brooks art exhibit), are frantically running around (or perhaps their assistants are) getting dresses, shoes, handbags and jewels ready for their A-list clients who will grace the red carpet this Sunday. So very exciting! This is the pinnacle of the red carpet awards season. Remember my thoughts on red carpet fashion hierarchies, during the Grammys?(click here). Well this is the red carpet were all the glamourous fashion stops must be pulled out.
With all this fashion excitement about to commence I thought I would look to this past runway season to make some red carpet predictions. There is nothing more fabulous and more “A-list” than wearing a dress down the red carpet that literally walked off the fashion week runway and into your wardrobe. Trending in evening gowns on the runways were all over sparkle and the newest (…and my preferred) of Oscar dress fabrics: lamè. So I expect to see all over gold, all over silver and hopefully new metallics like gunmetal and copper in all dress styles. Also, I have been predicting from past red carpets that the deep V neckline and high slit skirt were emerging as trends (click here) and I think this Academy Awards is going prove that they are the top fashion ideas for red carpet style. Even on the Fall 2010 runways, these silhouettes were in almost every collection. So expect to see the deep V to replace the one shoulder. Also you will see all types of high slit skirts and the next version the 80s-esque, knee exposing, short in the front, long in the back skirts.
Finally, the fashion trend I would like to see the most, is different for the Oscars. We tend to see mermaid shapes and ball gown dresses which frankly I’m tired of. I feel the strongest dresses will be slim to the body, form fitting and with sharp tailoring or soft frothing.
So, take a look at my slide show below. Let’s see how many trends/dresses on the red carpet I can predict! From your Editor-in-Chic… I’ll see you on the streets!
