When you walk into Marina del Rey’s Tony P’s, it might be to check out their acclaimed sports bar. The accolades are well deserved with a brilliant wall of high-def flat screens, tables all facing frontward and a tremendous bar that spans the whole width of the room. They have a beer selection not to be believed and a plethora of hurried servers.
Be careful, though — if you can’t snag a table, it’s a battle to get service in there.
Tony P’s has a sensational restaurant, though. Set back behind the bar, down the hall, it manages to be classy without being pretentious, open and airy – yet intimate, and the servers are all bustling but friendly. Add to that the calming surroundings of the marina and it makes for a nice night out. When the weather is great, the outdoor patio’s cover rolls up so patrons can better enjoy the fresh air.
The menu has choices for everybody featuring a huge array of appetizers, salads, pastas, seafood, steaks, BBQ and specials. There are several combinations to choose from as well, should you not be able to settle on just one thing. Even better than the meals are the near-dozen desserts available. The server might suggest the chocolate chip cookie sundae. Listen to them – it’s a nostalgia invoking treat.
It’s smart to make a reservation at Tony P’s and even smarter to arrive early to deal with the valet parking, which is a jam-packed mess at peak hours. It’s also fair to expect to wait a little, even with a reservation. Luckily, they try to accommodate every patio seating request.
And though you will likely blow a fair amount of change on your meal, hang onto three bucks for the valet afterward. A small price to pay after such a delightful evening.
